University Description
Shaanxi University of Technology is located in Hanzhong, a charming city with world characteristics, a famous national historical and cultural city and an excellent tourist city in China. It is one of the first universities in China with the right to confer bachelor’s degree, and has a long history of running schools. In 1958, Hanzhong University was established to solve the basic education teachers and other urgently needed talents in southern Shaanxi, and in 1978 it was renamed Hanzhong Normal University. In 1965, to meet the needs of the third-line construction strategy, Peking University Hanzhong Branch was established in Hanzhong. After the evacuation of Peking University Branch in 1978, Shaanxi Institute of Technology was established at the original site. In 2001, Hanzhong Normal University and Shaanxi Institute of Technology merged to form shaanxi university of technology. In 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, shaanxi university of technology was renamed Shaanxi University of Technology. In 2019, the school realized a batch of undergraduate enrollment in Shaanxi Province.
The school has three campuses with a total area of 1,361,300 square meters and a total building area of 684,900 square meters. Now there are 15 colleges and 2 teaching experiment training centers. There are 62 undergraduate majors, and there are more than 20,000 full-time students in the school.
Adhering to the orientation of “based on Shaanxi and serving the grassroots”, and adhering to the motto of “Mingde, Zhili, erudite and faithful”, the school is committed to cultivating “advanced applied talents with innovative spirit and practical ability”. At present, it has 4 national first-class specialty construction sites, including mechanical design and manufacturing and automation specialty, physics, material forming and control engineering, computer science and technology, 14 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, such as economics, Chinese language and literature, biological science, 2 national characteristic specialties, 1 national and 6 provincial specialty comprehensive reform pilot construction projects, 6 provincial characteristic specialties, 3 provincial famous brand specialties and 8 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. There are 7 provincial-level innovation experimental zones for talent training mode, 2 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship education pilot colleges, 10 provincial-level teaching teams, 12 provincial-level famous teachers, 1 national-level and 4 provincial-level off-campus practical education bases for college students. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 130,000 professional and technical personnel for the country, and most of them have become business backbones, academic leaders and excellent management talents in their industries, departments or regions, which have been widely praised by all sectors of society.
The school insists on taking discipline construction as the leading factor and deeply implements the first-class discipline construction project. Biology is a discipline for “the first-class discipline construction university in China”, and it has 7 first-class disciplines such as Chinese language and literature, biology and mechanical engineering, 6 master’s degree authorization points, and 6 provincial key disciplines (characteristic disciplines). 1 state key laboratory jointly built by provinces and departments-Qinba Key Laboratory of Biological Resources and Ecological Environment (cultivation), 1 national and local joint engineering laboratory, 1 national popularization base of humanities and social sciences, 1 provincial collaborative innovation center in 2011, 3 provincial laboratories, 2 provincial key research bases of philosophy and social sciences in universities, 2 liberal arts philosophy think tanks, 1 provincial postdoctoral innovation base, 1 provincial academician expert workstation, and 28 provincial research centers and service platforms.
The school adheres to the support of scientific and technological innovation. Since the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, the school has undertaken and participated in more than 80 national-level scientific research projects and 249 provincial-level scientific research projects, and published 4,326 academic papers, of which 1,153 were included in four indexes including SCI, 403 books and teaching materials were published, and 1,835 national patents were authorized. Won 34 provincial and ministerial level and above scientific research achievement awards; Won one provincial key scientific and technological innovation team. Journal of Shaanxi University of Technology (Social Science Edition) is an “excellent social science journal of national universities”, and Journal of Shaanxi University of Technology (Natural Science Edition) is an “excellent online journal of Chinese scientific papers”.
The school always takes serving the society and local economic development as its own responsibility, insists on paying equal attention to basic research and applied research, and persists in facing the main battlefield of local economic construction. It has made outstanding achievements in the research and development of natural resources in Qinba Mountain area, the development and research of industrial applied technology, the cultural history of Hanshui River Basin and the development strategy of cultural industry, and its social influence is expanding day by day, making due contributions to local economic and social development.
