University Description
Approved by the Ministry of Education in August 2001, Jiangsu University is a key comprehensive university established by the merger of the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Normal College. It is a university co-established by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. It is also one of the first batch of universities to be constructed as high-level universities in Jiangsu Province, one of the first batch of universities with national outstanding undergraduate teaching level, one of the first batch of universities with national typical experience in graduate employment, one of the first batch of universities with national typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, one of the first batch of universities with national quality certification for Overseas Study in China, and one of the national pilot universities for comprehensive reform of “Three-integrity education”.
The school has a history of one hundred years and profound cultural deposits. The school has a high starting point and its comprehensive strength has been ranked among the top 100 schools in China. As early as 1978, THE University was recognized by The State Council as one of the 88 key universities in China. In 1981, it became one of the first universities authorized to confer doctor’s and master’s degrees in China. In recent years, the school has focused on connotation development and deeply implemented the development strategy of “High-level, Distinctive and international”, and its influence at home and abroad has been continuously improved. The school has a large scale and excellent educational conditions. The discipline covers 12 disciplines including engineering, agriculture, science, medicine, management, economics, philosophy, law, literature, education, history, art and so on. It has 27 colleges and 97 undergraduate programs. There are more than 2700 full-time teachers (37% of whom have more than one year overseas experience), and a group of high-level talents have gathered together. The university has more than 40,000 students, including more than 13,000 postgraduates and more than 2,300 overseas students. Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University has nearly 10,000 full-time students. The campus covers an area of more than 3000 mu, with various building areas of more than 1.2 million square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 1.21 billion yuan. The library has a floor area of 51,000 square meters and a collection of 3.22 million volumes. It has subscribed to 116 databases of various kinds and built 11 characteristic databases by itself. Jiangsu University Press and magazine publishing house publishes more than 1500 kinds of books and hosts 11 international and domestic academic journals, among which “Journal of Jiangsu University” (Natural Science edition), “Journal of Jiangsu University” (Social Science edition) and “Journal of Drainage and Irrigation Machinery Engineering” are the national Core Chinese periodicals. College Education Management is a CSSCI source journal, a National Chinese core journal, and an important source journal for reprinting newspaper materials by RENMIN University of China.
The school has a high level of education, with a number of high-level disciplines. Nine disciplines of engineering, materials Science, clinical medicine, Chemistry, agricultural Science, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biology and biochemistry, environmental Ecology, molecular Biology and genetics are ranked among the top 1% in ESI, and engineering is ranked among the top 1‰, ranking 46th in ESI in China. It has 2 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivated) discipline and 10 advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu universities. It has 14 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines, 44 master’s programs in first-level disciplines, and 20 professional master’s degrees. There are 13 post-doctoral research stations.
